The Kansas City Tweed Ride – Velocipede & Tweed Indeed is now less than three weeks away. The promoters are continuing to work to make this an entertaining and memorable event. There are a few particulars regarding the ride which we need to make you aware of. Please read and heed.
We’ve had a minor change in venue. Rather than meeting under the shelter at Loose Park we will now gather on the opposite (west) side of the park in the circle drive near the Rose Garden. A recent development now allows our group the use of the pavilion on the east side of the park – please share this information with any others who plan to attend! The park insists that we not ride our bicycles on the grass, but rather walk them across the turf.
Here you will find tables for registration. Registration is necessary to participate in the ride and to be eligible for the prize drawings and contests. While registering please consider making a donation to help defray some of the expenses of the ride. Any amount, large or small, would be greatly appreciated. All excess funds will go to our selected charities, Revolve, Inc. and The Urban Kansas City Community of Cycling.
Once registered, you will receive a spoke card. This card will have your entry number on the back. It is this number that will be used by the contest judges in their selection process. Please keep it close at hand if you wish to participate in the event activities. It will also be needed to claim a prize in the drawings after the ride.
The contest judging will be held at approximately 12:30. There are a total of 7 categories so we will be urging participants to assemble quickly in order to launch the ride as close to 1:00 as possible.
During this social period we also will be selling the charity benefit raffle tickets. Our grand prize is the 24” x 30” original painting by Kevin Nierman. Tickets will be sold for $5.00 each or five tickets for $20.00. Photographer Chris Thomas will be strolling about with camera in hand snapping candid photos. Don’t be bashful to approach him if you wish to be photographed in a posed fashion. We’re sure he’ll be more than happy to oblige your wishes.
At 1:00 we hope to begin the ride. Depending upon the size of the group, and the number of times we stop to regroup, we expect the 10 mile jaunt to last an hour and a half to two hours. An alternate route is available for those who prefer a shorter distance.
When we return to the park we will award the prizes to our contest winners. As a separate drawing, prizes will also be given out at random from the registration entries. We will then pull the winning raffle ticket and award the grand prize, along with a few other high value items. Everyone who purchases a raffle ticket will be eligible to win the painting.
