Believe it or not, the date of the event was advanced by two weeks in the hope of having our ride while the flowering tree blossoms were are their peak. Spring arrived much earlier than we ever expected as the air is fragrant with their scent already. It just goes to show that you can’t second guess Mother Nature!
We’re adding an additional segment to the event this year. Our plan is to take a short, and safe, route after the award ceremonies to continue our merriment with the option to imbibe in some liquid refreshments. We have been in contact with the proprietor of Winslow’s BBQ in the River Market. They have agreed to cordon off a section of their outdoor patio for our use as an after party.
We’ve had several generous donations of prizes. The list of donors continues to grow. If you have an suitable item you would be willing to offer please contact us at email@example.com. Current donors include The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Chipman Design, Mark Alan Anderson, Re-Velo, Victorian Trading Co., Walz Caps, Ju-Ju Beads, TaddiHogg, BikeWalkKC, Winslow’s BBQ, Back Door Pottery, Local Pig Charcuterie with a few others still in the works.
We also are still in need of some judges for the contests. Expertise and experience is not a requirement, we don’t want to be too stuffy about it. After all, it is just for the fun of it.
Please be sure to come prepared for the event. Have your picnic lunch packed and securely fastened to your bicycle. It is also advisable to take a short “shake down cruise” on your ride to be sure that your togs don’t interfere with the proper operation of your bicycle. There was that one young lass last year that got her skirt caught in the rear wheel… Dreadfully embarrassing outcome, I dare say.
Please also be reminded that this is a benefit for BikeWalkKC. We will be collecting a suggested $5.00 donation per rider. Checks are welcome, no credit cards please. We strongly encourage the wearing of a helmet during the actual ride.
